چکیده

Effects associated with radiation can be categorized as either deterministic or stochastic. Deterministic effects manifest themselves in a relatively short time after a high-intensity exposure to radiation (e.g., 1 or more sieverts). In 1994, approximately 50 radiation-induced burns were reported to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In 2000, a review of 73 reports of radiation-induced skin injuries identified fluoroscopically-guided procedures as the cause of 38 severe skin injuries (e.g., chronic ulceration); 18 requiring skin grafts. Radiation-induced burns have also been reported after extended radiation exposure during CT brain perfusion scans.

Preventing Patient Death or Serious Injury Associated With Radiation Exposure From Fluoroscopy and Computed Tomography: Brief Review (NEW)

Introduction Fluoroscopicallyand computed tomography (CT)-guided diagnostic and interventional procedures are being performed with increasing frequency worldwide. From 1980 to 2007, annual performance of CT in the U.S. increased from 3 million to 80 million. With this rapid increase in the use of imaging techniques, there has been a concurrent increase in patient exposure to ionizing radiation....

Assessment of radiation-induced cancer risk to patients undergoing computed tomography angiography scans

Background: Computed tomography angiography (CTA) scan is a suitable imaging technique to evaluate the blood vessels. However, one major disadvantage is the potential risk of cancer related to ionizing radiation exposure during the procedures. The aim of this investigation was to estimate the risk of exposure induced cancer death (REID) values for some common computed tomography angiography (CT...

CLINICAL REPORT Radiation Risk to Children From Computed Tomography

Imaging studies that use ionizing radiation are an essential tool for the evaluation of many disorders of childhood. Ionizing radiation is used in radiography, fluoroscopy, angiography, and computed tomography scanning. Computed tomography is of particular interest because of its relatively high radiation dose and wide use. Consensus statements on radiation risk suggest that it is reasonable to...

Lung Lesions Biopsy in Children by Computed Tomography (CT) Fluoroscopy Guided Versus Conventional CT Scan Guided

Abstract Background Computed tomography (CT)-guided biopsy of the lung is a well-established method of diagnosis. The aim of this study was to determine the success rate of fluoroscopic CT (FCT) and conventional CT (CCT) in needle navigation biopsies from the lung lesions. Materials and Methods A total of 78 patients were prospectively enrolled to receive CT-guided biopsy with (group I, n=2...
